| Mini-Chronicle Also known as the York street jail, or Springfield jail, and for years "jail for sale". As you pass down the highway through Springfield MA you couldn't miss the large ornate brick prison with the huge billboard stating "JAIL FOR SALE". When we first heard about it we reluctantly checked it out. We were able to find a way in after a bit of hunting around, and we were amazed with the place. Although it was a bit small this was the first jail we had explored, and so far (for me at least) the most colorful. On the way out we stopped short because someone was blocking our path though the fence, a large trucker. We ended up having to wait him out for a half hour; god knows what he was doing. Less than a month later we heard Andy Dice was caught by police there setting up a sting to catch people illegally scrapping the buildings copper. Lucky for him they let him go, thinking that he was just some wacko kid that likes photographing abandoned buildings.
