Sadly this will probably be the only chronicle for Minor's Dam6/2004

What would you do?
Keti gives this location a thumbs up
Rob and Keti crossing the river

We found this place while in upstate New York with Keti's mom to keep her company while she was on a week long trip for work. About halfway through the trip we found the 'Minor's Dam' as it was called by a local while driving all over Clinton County looking for an indian reserve to get cheap cigarettes at. At first I thought it was a mansion over a river, as rediculous as that sounds....

Day 1

As we're driving all around Altona and Chazy, New York we drive by this huge structure. Of course Keti and I insist on stopping. Keti's mom agreed to stop on the way back after getting cigarettes. So we continue down the road where we find the indian reserve we had been looking for for days. On the way back we pull into a campground next to the dam. A woman at the gate asked us what we were doing there. We told her we wanted to check out the dam. At first we thought she was going to kick us out but instead she started giving us a brief history of the dam.

I Started to check out the area. Access to the building was blocked by an over-extended fence on a walkway about 20 feet off the ground. Keti and I tried to cross the river by walking across it but the rocks we all very slippery so we gave up on that and tried to get some more pictures of the building. Apparently as this was happening had already made his way across further down the river. We returned to the car and no one knew where he was. Then seemingly out of no where we see him treking across the river. We decided it might be better to come back another day when we have more time to work with.

Day 2

Keti, Rob and I return to the dam. This time we park outside the campgrond because we're going to try to get inside the damn. We cross the river the way rob had on the earlier trip. Once on the other side we try to figure out how we can get over onto the main area of the building. I attepted to climb over the fence but the top was so unstable I was worried about it giving and then I'd fall into the rocks below. I found that I was able to fit through a gap near the top of the fence. I was pretty scratched up but I made it to the other side. Once there though I found that We couldn't get into the building The doors were either welded shut or locked with these huge locks that must have been 3/4" thick. any open windows we completely out of reach without considerable acrobatic skills. So I came back though the fence this time cuttting myself up alot. We walked down the river and back to the car. but at least we got a few pictures of this really impressive looking abandoned structure.
