Chas, nuff said.

On a nice, sunny morning in early May, our good friend MovingUnit came up to Massachusetts to pick up our dead-beat asses and bring us down to Nowich.

The hike from the car to the hospital was excruciating. The sun was beating down on us and there was not an inch of shade for miles. By the time we got there I was exhausted and covered in sweat. So when we saw the entrance freshly boarded up, I was pissed. Luckily for us, MovingUnit. is more familiar with that place than just about anyone else. He quickly got us in a different way.

I insisted on seeing the theatre before anything else. As I had seen dozens of his photos of this theatre, I was more than excited to be able to see it for myself. It was just as amazing as his photos made it look.

From there MovingUnit brought us to various buildings on the campus, old and new alike.

The older buildings had such beautiful architecture, and amazingly intricate interiors. It was a blast to take pictures of it all, even if they didn't come out so well!

After seeing rooms that looked like they could have sat empty for 50 years, the more recent buildings made it feel like we were in a different place entirely.

MovingUnit. asked us to stay quiet, as the building we were now in sat directly behind the security building. We did our best, but "quiet" really isn't in our vocabulary. In a large empty concrete stairwell, a fire extinguisher sat lonely on a clean landing. Not being able to ignore my curiosity, I gave the lever a quick squeeze and the booming sound of escaping air echoed throughout the entire floor.

After my stupid stunt thoroughly got all our nerves on end, we headed upstairs. Through two small windows in the elevator maintinence room, we could see several cars and a small group of people at the security building.

We went back down to the basement, ready to head back towards the older buildings when in a large empty basement room we hear a bang, followed by several sets of feet running up a stairwell, a metal door being the only thing keeping us from whoever was on the other side. We shut off our lights and waited where we stood. Matt Fallout and I were right in front of the door, MovingUnit a few steps behind, and Chas at the other end of the room.

We waited in extreme silence for what seemed like minutes, then Matt carefully opened the large metal door. looking up the stairs at ground-level, we saw a door proped open. Matt quickly closed the metal door and ushered me over to Chas, the four of us now standing between a long tunnel and the empty room. We heard the footsteps over our head and started walking down the tunnel. Several yards down was a bowling alley. peering through the doorway we saw numerous cars trucks and vans parked against the building. Matt turned back, through the room we were just in and into an adjacent hallway. MovingUnit, Chas and I now on our toes, looking in the direction Matt just went. Seconds later Matt bolts around the corner, and we take off running.

Holes in the floor, pipes hanging low, and broken furniture stewn about made for a difficult escape. If not for our fear of whatever made Matt run in the first place, humming the Indiana Jones theme music would have been quite apropo.

Once back in the building we entered from, we packed up our things and made a quick exit.

Back on the trail and safe from arrest, Matt told us he had seen several people turning a corner towards him. Thinking they had seen him, he took off running. When we later found out who was in the building with us, we decided that we had made the right choice.
