Theater Hunt2/2005

The Screen itself is a Building

I found out about the Motor-In during a web search hoping to find some abandoned drive-in theaters. Specifically one my friends Mud and Greg had told me about a few years ago, supposedly it bordered the Blackstone River. The search went dead on that theater, however we two others that looked worth checking out. One was the Quaker drive-in theater in Uxbridge, which ended up only being a screen in a storage lot. The other was The Motor-In.

Originally we planned on picking up Brandon (UEdamien) to come with us on this trip, but he ended up being snowed in. So Keti and I set out just the two of us. The snow was coming down but not too bad. We eventually got out to the Uxbridge to find that the Quaker drive-in was not worth the trip. We stopped anyway and I took a couple pics of the screen, which was in a small lot used to store vehicles.

By the time we got to the Motor-In the snow was coming down pretty hard. Keti was afraid to go in, so she stayed in the car pretending to be lost looking at a map, I walked over to the theater to get some pictures. It was a lot cooler that I expected. The projectors were still there, although I assume unusable because the wear and tear of being exposed to the weather for so long. Since it was snowing hard, I figured we could come back another time so, I didn’t check out the screen too much. I just took a quick picture and went back to the car so we could get home and out of the storm. It was definitely cool enough to warrant a second trip.
